Skill Development Programs to Internship: A Remarkable Journey with BdOSN

I am Sheerin Shabnam Muna. I have completed my graduation on Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) from Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET). After my graduation I was searching for a suitable job relevant with my field.

In the interim, the whole world was stuck with the lockdown for the COVID-19 pandemic situation. All the employment procedure along with the educational activities suddenly shut down. We were move to the online events instead of on spot activities. This situation brought a great threat to our career goal. During this lockdown period I got connected with Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) through their online skill development activities. I have enrolled so many skill and career development courses and workshops organized by BdOSN. Since then I have been a part of BDOSN for more than 6 months. BDOSN offers so many training sessions to improve our skills. The training sessions included WordPress, flutter, Microsoft Office, guidelines on preparing ourselves for interviews, and many more. Networking is important while seeking a job. Girls often ignore it. BDOSN helped us with networking and learning more about the requirements of the companies by arranging sessions with the CEOs. We often miss job openings. BDOSN informed us about the opening of various career opportunities open for the youth especially for the girls.

As the world still not prepare for moving to the field with proper safety precaution yet, I was looking for a remote job which I could be managed from home so that I don’t have to waste my time in the lockdown period. It is about to mention that, online remote job was getting popular in the worldwide to keep the economy running during the pandemic situation. As I thought, I approach to the BdOSN through their career opportunities segment. After a thorough screening process, they have informed me of my current internship. They have referred my CV to JoomShaper for their internship opportunities and I got selected after a close interview. The training sessions from BDOSN have been very helpful to be selected for my internship.

Currently, I'm working there as a support engineer intern in a small team. First, we were given training for 7 days. After that, we started working. Our work was supervised by our team leader for more than a month. Now, we are working without any supervision. But we are being helped by our seniors with our work. Our task is to communicate with the customers and solve their technical issues. We are expected to be good team players. My experience in this internship is very good so far. The environment is very good. Everyone in my workplace is very cooperative. We are working from home in this pandemic. I hope, it will take me to the long run to compete the future job market with a remarkable achievement. I feel so blessed that where a significant number of people loss their job due to the pandemic, I got the opportunity to flourish myself with this internship.
