In the age of information technology, cybercrime is a major issues worldwide! And the main victims of this incident are the female citizens. The main reason for this is the lack of knowledge, basic competencies on technology and shortage of awareness about the uses and abuses of social media of women. Tech Back the Tech, a cyber-security awareness program, is organized worldwide to address women against this crime. When it comes to cybercrime, Bangladesh is not far behind other countries, where the rate of cybercrime is increasing day by day. Bangladesh Open Source Network (BDOSN) runs this program in Bangladesh to raise awareness among our female populations.
While the internet beneficial to people in this age of technological advancement, one of the major disadvantage is the crime committed on the internet. To raise awareness among women about the using of social media, BdOSN organized a seminar on 23 January, 2020 at Central Women’s University Dhaka.
The program was organized with the participation of about 70 female students of the university. President of Bangladesh Women in Technology (BWIT) and Vice President of BDOSN Lafifa Jamal and Shahnaz Parvin, Head of Computer Science and Engineering Department of the University along with the other teachers of the university were present there. The session was conducted by Take Back the Tech coordinator and BDOSN's Chief Coordinator Mahbuba Sultana. She focused on the cyber risks of female students and various aspects of remedies. Guests were also participated in an interactive discussion with the students to know about their thinking about the cybercrime.
