Bangladesh Open Source Network and EMK Center have recently organized a Career Talk on AI & IoT, and Professionalism in Volunteering. This talk took place on January 11, 2022. The aim of this session was to explain the basic idea of AI & IoT and their correlation. 25 students from around Dhaka attended this two-hour session which took place in EMK Center, Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
The session was facilitated by Mr. Azfar Adib. Mr. Adib is currently a Ph.D. Student in Concordia University, Canada. He is also a senior member of the IEEE. He served Grameenphone as a Manager, IoT & M2M Service for a long period.
The event started with the opening remarks of Ms. Kaniz Fatema, CEO of Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN). After the introductory part he started his session with the basic ideas of AI & IoT with their evolving timeline. He indicated how an adult, a kid, and a device observe differently to learn. He also mentioned some limitations of this tech. He said “Only engineers can’t build an AI system, it has to be a collaborative process of the connected stakeholders.” During his session, he emphasized on amplifying bias. The participants were very excited about the topic.
In the second section, he gave importance about professionalism in volunteerism. He said “In developed countries, getting the opportunity to volunteer is as hard as getting a new job. Also some participants have shared their voluntary experience that has a huge impact on them.
The workshop concluded with a quote “AI is not the solution to everything. It’s just a tech, that depends on us how we use it.”
