BdOSN Conducted Some Skill Development Programs at the CSE Fest of Sylhet Engineering College

Without information & technology based skills, it is very much difficult to survive in job sector. To prepare the students for their better future a two-day long CSE Fest has been completed at Sylhet Engineering College. Under this fest Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) organised some skill development programs to explore new opportunities in ICT based workplace and to provide a bsic concept about required skills to survive in this modern world of technology. 

BdOSN organized a programming contests, ICT camps and career talk. Almost three hundred students of the college from different department participated in this event. The program began on 19th February with an online programming contest, where hundreds of students from computer science and engineering department the college participated. They solve many complex problems by coding in this competition. On 20 February, the last day of the event, an ICT camp was organized with the participation of nearly two hundred students from different departments. The camp was run by Topu Newaz, Senior Vice President of SHOHZ.com. Addressing the students, he said “In the current age of information & technology, the traditional workplace are breaking down and new opportunities are creating every day. Working areas are being created in almost all areas because of technology. In order to make a place for ourselves, we need a full control over information & technology. That is why everyone needs to be prepared”. He said that in order to improve the society, first we have to improve ourselves, which has to start from now. 

To share some ideas on “what the future workplace is going to be like and how to be prepare for that day” Abdur Rouf, Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Sylhet Engineering College and Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, Dean, Applied Science and Technology at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology were present there. Mr. Abdur Rouf said "Depression is a disease. Everyone should be strong mentally so that nothing can make them weak. Depression means losing the place where we are today". Finally, the event ends by prize giving ceremony.

Bangladesh Open Source Network organized all these activities for the students who are studying in Information & Technology under the 3 years long ESDG project, so that they do not fall behind for the lack of proper skills and guidance.
