BDOSN at City University with Skill Development Programs in Information Technology for Women

Empowerment of women in the workplace is not possible without access to information technology skills. Currently, women need to be trained in information technology to ensure women's participation in the job market. Programming camps, ICT camps and career talk were organized at City University under the initiative of Bangladesh Open Source Network (BDOSN) to prepare the women for future job market.  About 135 students of the university participated in these three-day events. The program, which began on January 25 with a programming camp and ended on January 27.

Forty female students from the university's computer science and engineering department participated in the two-day programming camp. They are trained on how to solve practical problems through coding. The second day the students took part in an online programming contest.

On the last day of the event, an ICT camp was organized with the participation of about 4 students from different departments. The camp is headed by Jabed Sultan Pias, head of Digital Business, The Daily Prothom Alo. He talks about various aspects of digital business through information technology.

He said, "The more efficiently one can finish his/her work, the more he/she will survive. And this makes would be easier by the touch of information technology. ” In response to various questions of the students, he said, “Prothom-alo is the largest web (about 32% page visits). Every day about 10 million people come to visit. That's exactly the amount of people come to hack the page. So security is a big issue. Even without information technology, it is not possible to solve this problem. Therefore, it is important to have knowledge of information technology for any purpose. ”

Then three-day event ended with a career talk. Munir Hassan, BDOSN's general secretary and head of the Youth Program of The Daily Prothom Alo, was present at Career Talk to guide the female students for future workplace. He said that in the current age of information technology, there is always a breakthrough in the workplace. In addition to programming, web design, the fields of automation, data mining, artificial intelligence etc. are being created. You need to take full control of information technology based skills in order to make your place in this digital world.  He inspires every student to find his/her interest on which he/she can work on it. "Computer science and engineering means not only programmers, but in the technological world, the scope of this field is increasing" he added.

Md. Safayet Hossain, Head of the Computer Science and Engineering Department of the university, was present at the event that was organized under the three-year ongoing project of BDOSN. At the end of the event, crests and certificates were handed over to the winners at the Programming Contest.
