As part of the STEM & ICT Skills for the Girls of Coastal Area (SISGCA) initiative, which is funded by the Malala Fund in partnership with BdOSN, science classes were held on September 9, 2024, at Shahid Ali Ahammad Govt. Girls High School and Shahid Kamel Model High School in Tala, Satkhira. Eighty students from both schools, in grades six through eight, participated in these sessions.
The main goal of these workshops was to give students the tools they needed to keep up with advances in science and technology. Enhancing the dissemination of scientific knowledge among students is the aim of this initiative. But education is on the decline for a number of reasons, especially in coastal areas where girls lag behind boys in science and technology education. The social environment frequently prevents girls from the villages from going to college. By taking part in practical science assessments, students will be able to acquire skills more easily and participate in a variety of science competitions. Their participation in these national and international competitions will increase the nation's profile.
The sessions were led by Farzana Akter Lima and Era Asrafi, who provided insights into various physics topics. The facilitators discussed the experimental topics and current results of the scientists working in Bangladesh, highlighting their contributions. The discussion also covered the advantages for the environment of using poly bags made of jute for soil health.During the session, students explored the concept of density and its role in buoyancy. They were also urged to adopt environmental protection measures.
