A webinar was organised to discuss the current scopes and prospects of the ICT sector that are open for all female students. This event was jointly organized on 1st September 2020 by Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) and it’s three year ESDG4BD project.
This session was graced by a young independent entrepreneur Rudmeela Nawsheen, founder and CEO of ConfigVR and ConfigRbot. She discussed the current scenario in the tech industry and advised the young females to prepare themselves for the future. Dr. Lafifa Jamal, Professor, Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering, Dhaka University was also present there where she discussed the current condition compared to her perspective and said that how technology has evolved so fast in the robotic industry of Bangladesh. She also talked about the vast opportunities and facilities that are available in the current ICT sector for girls.
Ms. Rudmeela Nawsheen talked about how she got involved in this industry and how her family background had helped her to become a successful businesswoman and independent entrepreneur. She discussed her journey and advised the audience accordingly. She said, “The opportunities now available in the IT field is huge and it will leap further in the near future”. Ms. Rudmeela Nawsheen advised every audience to make themselves prepared in the IT field for the near future. COVID-19 pandemic has taken bangladeshi IT sector by a lot, she added. She also added that the home quarantine has made so many workers to work over the internet from home. So the misconception and fear so many people had is gone now.
Dr. Lafifa Jamal, Professor, DRME, Dhaka University, said, “When we were students we did not have such opportunities today's students have and we also did not have data & information current internet world has”. Dr. Lafifa Jamal also added that the current internet world is a school for all and anyone can learn anything if he/she has enough dedication. She said, the current COVID-19 situation has taught us how to adapt with the internet society and how to use it properly to save time and it is a high time for everyone to adapt to the IT world.
There were two participants in the webinar. Rabeya Akter Faria and Aiman Lameesa. The asked several questions to Ms. Rudmeela Nawsheen and Dr. Lafifa Jamal about their respected field and how they should prepare themselves. They said they now feel more confident and motivated.
The program was hosted by Jahanara Amir Jimi, Project Manager and Head of Operations, Bangladesh Open Source Network BdOSN. She asked Ms. Rudmeela about any conflict that might happen because of the current technological phase and advancement. Rudmeela replied that advancement in technology creates more opportunities than replacing humans. Ms. Jahanara Amir Jimi added if the female should make them ready and step in for the upcoming IT world opportunities. Ms. Rudmeela Nawsheen replied that it does not matter if you are male or female, the only thing that matters is how capable you are in your respected field. And she advised everyone to learn with dedication.
