Since the innovation of computers and the birth of the internet, the growth of technology is changing lives. With the rapid growth of smartphones, gadget development, and the increasing reach of tech in everyday life, web development is one of the most attractive fields in the tech industry. And being a developer is one of the coolest and most beneficial jobs in today’s world. Since female students can play an important role in the country's economy, it is important to make them skilled in the area of programming, web development, problem-solving etcetera similarly as boys. Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) mainly organize the workshop named ‘WordPress Essential’ to encourage the girls from ICT non-ICT sector to involve more in ICT related working field specially in web developing sector.
This was a three hours long workshop on 25th July 2020. A mentor from Bangladesh Open Source Network conducted the camp with almost 50 female participants from all over the country. Through this camp, the participants got to know all the basic things of WordPress and the process of web development by using it. Besides, throughout this camp, they also be aware of the market value of being a web developer. They also got to know that, Web development is one of the most sought-after jobs. It is a job where anybody can work independently (be your own boss) or with a team. It is possible to work from anywhere. It brings out or improves creativity (build your own idea from nothing). It helps to become a better problem-solver. They also came to know about the fact that in the future this field will be in top position.
It is to be noted that this workshop was organized under "Enabling Sustainable Development Goals for Bangladesh - SDG4BD" project of Bangladesh Open Source Network to encourage the girls & women for involving more in the working sector and also increase the participation of them in the field of information technology.
Bangladesh Open Source Network already working in a huge premise for the development of the girls countrywide. In the Future, they will organize more skill development training in addition to workshops named ‘WordPress Essential’ in both online & offline so that the female from ICT and non-ICT sectors of Bangladesh do not fall short of skills.
