To make the students proficient in the programming field and make them more interested in the field of Information Technology, Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) & Chittagong Independent University (CIU) jointly organized a Grace Hopper Girls Programming Camp. It was a two-day-long camp and the event took place on the premises of Chittagong Independent University, Chattogram on 26th and 27th of the month of November 2021. A total number of 35 students participated in this event.
The Programming Camp was graced by Mr. Rayhan Uddin Mahmud, Former Software Engineer of chaldal dot com, and Mosaraf Hossain Tipu, Program Officer of Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN). The aim of the camp was to teach, pitch up and train the participants from basic to advanced levels of programming (such as Variable, Condition, Loop, Function, Algorithm, etc.). To make the camp more engaging the Mentors showed real-life examples & use case scenarios. The sessions were designed in such a way that kept the participants engaged and attentive throughout the whole session. On the second day of the camp (27th Nov), a mini moc programming contest was organized to help the students test their skills in the field of programming and to encourage the participants, the mentors announced 3 winners by observing the participants and also honored them with gift hampers.
On 27th November 2021, Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) also organized a career pitching session titled ‘Career Talk’ to help the participants understand future scopes and career opportunities that the ICT sector is providing and the opportunities are yet to come. The event took place on the Chittagong Independent University campus.
The session was graced by the Area Technology Manager, Chattogram Circle, the Technology division Grameenphone Limited, Mr. Mohit Chowdhury. He presented the whole session by referencing different real life examples and scenarios and also provided various career advice to the participants (Such as Seek Internship opportunities, Consider taking part in a Work-Study program, Grow your Skills and Knowledge, Identify your Specialization, Get an Early Start, Keep your Skills Up-to-Date, etc.). Mr. Mohit Chowdhury also discussed the habits that all ICT professionals should follow to build a successful career in this field. He said that having knowledge in the IT field is a must to survive in current and future job markets as most of the companies, businesses, education, etc. are more of less dependent on technology. “Demand on the IT services in Bangladesh has sky-rocketed in recent years and many Bangladeshi companies have already begun providing services to the international consumers”. A total number of 45 students participated in this event.
The events were organized under the ESDG4Bd-2030 project of Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN).
