Bangladesh has Huge Potential in Semiconductor Industry - Career Talk

Semiconductor industry in the global technology market is rapidly growing. Record of income in world semiconductor applications reached $ 480 billion. Uses of different types of devices in Bangladesh are increasing day by day. And the demand for chips for these devices is increasing at a very high rate. Therefore, chip production is an important step to make parts for domestic technology. Bangladesh can also contribute to the global semiconductor industries if the domestic chip manufacturer workforce is established.

As a Silicon-based semiconductor manufacturer, Intel has maintained its single reputation for more than two decades. Also, Korea-based company Samsung and several Chinese companies are now ahead of the chip. There is also a huge potential for this semiconductor industry in Bangladesh. With this possibility, a career talk was organized jointly by the University of Asia Pacific and the Bangladesh Open Source Network. Present at the event, Alia Safaquat, former Intel employee, who is now working on making chip designs and making Bangladesh a Silicon Delta. He is currently working as its managing director.

She said, "In this industry, the government and various organizations will work together to create jobs in the industry. Otherwise, our meritorious students will be interested only in becoming a programmer, web designer or software engineer, where Bangladesh is lag behind in semiconductor industry than Japan, China, Taiwan etc. Bilkis Jamal Ferdousi, the departmental head of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Asia Pacific, said that if we can make our students skilled in this semiconductor industry from academic life, we will be able to survive in the global market of semiconductor. Alok Kumar Saha, associate professor of the same organization, said that the government and private sectors should come forward from different levels to create skilled manpower in this industry.

Nusrat Jahan Siddiqui, a fourth-year student of the university, said that although she got semiconductor idea earlier, his idea of its workplace was ambiguous. This arrangement made her more interested in this sector.

If the domestic entrepreneurs are able to engage the semiconductor industry, they can play an important role in raising the GDP of the country. Our scientists and engineers can think the new industry. It will be able to utilize the new research and discovery. To make the country prosperous in its own product, policy-makers must give a different focus to this industry. The event was moderated by Bangladesh Open Source Network's general secretary Munir Hasan. He said, if there are some skilled people in the semiconductor industry, then Bangladesh can contribute in the semiconductor world market. Specially in Bangladesh, the semiconductor industry can be a big way to bring girls' students to work in technology. This career talk is arranged Under the ESDG4BD project of Bangladesh Open Source Network in 20 June, 2019.
