Bangladesh Open Source Network has running severel programs to engage a large commiunity of women in growing field of information and communication technologies (ICTs).For increasing women participation in ICT, we welcomed our first event of 'Girls in ICT' in this year. Partnering with the Google Developers Group-GDG Bangla, we have arranged a mentor training program in Google Cloud Study Jam on 10th May, 2019. In this program participants get the basic knowledge about fundamental tools and capabilities of Google Cloud. The baseline of this event was to provide knowledge about Machine Learning (MI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Girls are doing great in all the development field of the country. But unfortunately, rural girls are lag behind, specially in the field of technology. This sector offers great opportunities to access the women in this field easily. Bangladesh Open Source network (BOSN) has running a program named “MISSING DAUGHTER” to bring girls into the limelight of science and technology and encourage them to increase their participations and involvement in this field.
In Bangladesh, most of the rural girls’ students are disadvantaged in technological sector compared to the urban students. Bearing that in mind, Society for the Popularization of Science, Bangladesh (SPSB) and Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) has organized a two-days program (22February- 23February,2019) titled “Obak Kutuhole” in collaboration with KAZI IT Center. The idea behind this program is to make the girls desirous to science and technology through an enjoyable and joyful journey.
বাংলাদেশ ওপেন সোর্স নেটওয়ার্ক (বিডিওএসএন) এর মাধ্যমে বাংলাদেশ আন্তর্জাতিক রোবট অলিম্পিয়াড (International Robot Olympiad-IROC : www.iroc.org) এর সদস্যপদ লাভ করেছে, ২০১৭ সালের ১৬-ই ডিসেম্বর। এই অলিম্পিয়াডের বিশেষত্ব হচ্ছে, এতে যারা অংশগ্রহণ করতে পারে, তাদের বয়স ৭ থেকে ১৮ এর মধ্যে। যেখানে Robot Gathering, Rescue Mission, Travers Challenge, Robot In Movie, Creative Category (on Theme)- ইত্যাদি নানা রকমের প্রতিযোগিতায় অংশগ্রহণ করে। ১৬টি সদস্য রাষ্ট্র সহ প্রায় ২২-২৩ টি দেশের প্রতিযোগীরা এই সম্মানজনক প্রতিযোগিতায় অংশগ্রহণ করে থাকে। এই বছর , অর্থাৎ, ২০১৮ সালে এই রোবট অলিম্পিয়াডের আন্তর্জাতিক প্রতিযোগিতা টি অনুষ্ঠিত হবে ডিসেম্বারের ১৫ থেক ১৯ তারিখ, ফিলিপাইনের ম্যানিলা তে।
২৫টি জেলার পাবলিক লাইব্রেরিতে শুরু হচ্ছে স্কুল শিক্ষার্থীদের প্রোগ্রামিং শেখানোর আয়োজন। রাসবেরি পাই নির্ভর সাশ্রীয় মূল্যের বিশেষ কম্পিউটার কানো ও মাইক্রোবিট ব্যবহার করে এই প্রোগ্রামিং শিক্ষা কার্যক্রম পরিচালিত হবে। বাংলাদেশ সংস্কৃতি মন্ত্রণালয়ের একটি প্রকল্পের আওতায় ব্রিটশ কাউন্সিলের এই কার্যক্রম পরিচালনায় একাডেমিক সহযোগতিা প্রদান করবে বাংলাদেশ ওপেন সোর্স নেটওয়ার্ক (বিডিওএসএন)। ২০ সেপ্টেম্বর বৃহস্পতিবার ঢাকার বিশ্বসাহিত্য কেন্দ্রে এই বিষয়ে ব্রিটিশ কাউন্সিল বাংলাদেশ এবং বিডিওএসএনের মধ্যে একটি সমঝোতা স্বারক স্বাক্ষর হয়েছে। ব্রিটিশ কাউন্সিল বাংলাদেশের ডেপুটি ডিরেক্টর এন্দ্রু নিউটন এবং বিডিওএসএনের সহসভাপতি ড. লাফিফা জামাল নিজ নিজ প্রতিষ্ঠানের পক্ষে সমঝোতা স্বারকে স্বাক্ষর করেন।
A programming workshop is organized daylong on Tuesday, September 4 at Munshiganj Public Library.
The coding workshop was the first of many to be organised by Libraries Unlimited, a BMGF funded project delivered by the British Council in partnership with the Bangladesh Ministry of Cultural Affairs that aims to modernize the libraries of Bangladesh and improve public access to information and knowledge – a key part of which involves the introduction of coding educational resources in public libraries.
Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) conducted 1 month long basic scratch programming for high school students. The purpose was teaching a hands-on activity on how to create basic scratch program. 12 students from different schools in Dhaka took this course. Starting from April, the course ended yesterday successfully. The general secretary of BdOSN Mr. Munir Hasan was present at the closing ceremony.
Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) arranged a session titled “NLP for better Communication” to develop communication skills of its mentors and volunteers on 20 February 2018 at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro. The fruitful session was conducted by Roseline Sarkar who is a NLP and Business coach and member of Toastmasters International. The volunteers and mentors participated in the session and onsite experiments to practice NLP. The speaker of the session emphasized on learning things smartly, design positive thinking, communicating in a systematic way, controlling thoughts and activities improve their skills. The participants joined in a question and answer session for more clarification. Muntasher Morshed and Sadia Rahman, two volunteers of the organization, participated in two several experience sharing session regarding NLP and shared their experience and respective information.
