Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) organized a workshop on Higher Study Abroad on 17th February 2022. The session included various topics such as the procedure of applications in a German university, the requirements to apply, academics, finance, scholarship, and many other topics which will help the dedicated students in both decision making and applying to the right universities according to their qualification.
It was an online session and the session took place on the popular meeting media ZOOM.
The guest of the session was a graduate student from the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, Salman Jahan. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Environmental Engineering.
During the session, Salman Jahan started the discussion by saying, “the biggest misconception about not perceiving scholarships in Asian Universities”. “Even Erasmus Mundus scholarship is available in Asian universities”, said Salman Jahan.
While discussing the scholarships, she mentioned that anyone can apply to Asian universities if he/she possesses a GPA of 03.00 out of 04.00 in their undergraduate degree. And the minimum GPA to apply for a scholarship starts from 03.15. “SOP, Work Experience, Publication plays important roles while applying for a scholarship”, said Salman Jahan. When an unexpected amount of scholarship applications are filed, SOP, work experience, and publications are pointed as differential sectors. One should really try hard to get a scholarship if he/she is willing to study in Thailand as the average tuition fee for a master’s program in Thailand is around 37 – 40 Lakhs BDT. She also mentioned that Such scholarships really focus on students from developing countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, etc. so there is a great chance of winning scholarships.
“Countries like Thailand provide enough part-time jobs in order to fulfill the basic needs of a student including living expenses,” said Salman Jahan. A lot of assistantships can be found.
The weather conditions are very stable in Thailand. It’s mostly warm, so students from Bangladesh can adjust to the weather conditions, said Salman Jahan.
Salman Jahan’s final verdicts were-
- The people of Thailand are really self-aware
- The security of the country is top-notch
- Thai people helpful to the international students
