An awareness-raising session was held at Bara Katali ML Model High School on February 15th, 2024, to inform parents about the "STEM & ICT Skills for Girls of Coastal Areas" (SISGCA) project. The initiative, funded by The Malala Fund and implemented by the Bangladesh Freedom Foundation and Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN), aims to bridge the digital divide for girls in coastal regions by providing them with smart devices and promoting STEM education and ICT careers.
The SISGCA project is a two-year initiative funded by The Malala Fund and implemented by Bangladesh Freedom Foundation in association with BdOSN. The project aims to reduce the digital divide among secondary school girls in three coastal areas of Bangladesh by providing them with easy access to smart devices and bringing positive change among girls and community people regarding STEM education and ICT careers.
The session began with a welcome speech by Mr. Anadi Roy, Head Teacher, who emphasized the project's importance and the school's commitment to providing quality education and leveraging technology to achieve that goal. Regional Project Coordinator Mr. Inzamamul Haque then addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of STEM and ICT education, the project's activities, and how education can equip students to tackle future challenges.
Parents actively participated in an open discussion, expressing their observations about their daughters' increased interest in science due to the project. The session concluded with a call to action from Mr. Roy, urging parents to actively support their daughters' education and facilitate their participation in the valuable opportunities offered by SISGCA.
The SISGCA project is a valuable initiative that is helping to empower girls in coastal areas of Bangladesh through STEM and ICT skills. It is important to raise awareness about this project and to encourage parents to support their daughters' participation in it. Together, we can help to create a brighter future for these girls and for the coastal communities in which they live.
