On 26 September 2023, Mathematics and Programming sessions were conducted at Bara Katali Secondary School, Rampal, Bagerhat, under the STEM & ICT Skills for the Girls of Coastal Area (SISGCA) project funded by Malala Fund in association with BdOSN. 48 Students including 33 females and 15 Male students from classes 6 to 8 participated actively in these sessions.
The main objective of the project is to enable the students to keep pace with science and information technology. Students can increase the spread of scientific knowledge. The trend of education among students is decreasing due to various reasons. Girls lag far behind boys in science and information technology education in coastal areas. Due to various social reasons, village girls are being hindered from getting higher education. Skill will be gained by appearing in various practical tests of science subjects. Students can participate in various science competitions. Students will bring honor to the country by participating in various competitions in the country and abroad.
The Programming session started with the short welcome speech by, Mahbub Ul Islam Khan, Coordinator, SISGCA Project, BdOSN. After that, the Programming session conducted by Md. Shahriar Parvez Shaon, Bangladesh Junior Science Olympiad, Academic Team Member & Scratch Bangladesh Mentor utilizes interactive teaching methods, and group activities to make learning programming sessions enjoyable and engaging. They are taught in groups of 02 tablets each. They are taught hands-on how to make scratch stories. Foster a curiosity and passion for programming, encouraging students to explore programming beyond the classroom and nurture a lifelong appreciation for learning programming for the future age of artificial intelligence.
The Mathematics session started with a short speech by Md. Razaul Islam, Project Executive. The session was conducted by Md. Majedur Rahman, Academic Team Member, Bangladesh Math Olympiad committee, utilizes interactive teaching methods, fostering a positive learning environment. He teaches Geometry, Dot, Lines, Angles, Triangle (area, perimeter, measurements of angels), Quadrilateral, and Circle in a practical and interesting way. He tries to explain to the students separately what their problems are. In order to remove the students' lack of understanding and ignorance of geometry, he explained the geometrical explanations very simply by drawing them. Students received the session with curiosity and interest.
By the end of this session, students felt more eager to learn Math in a different way and possessed a positive attitude toward the subject
