Women have an immense potential to build their career in the field of ICT. A little motivation and sincere attempt can uncover that potential easily. With that vision, Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) has been organizing several programming training camps all over Bangladesh.
After the successful inauguration and 3 days of Grace Hopper Girls Programing Training camp in the last week, has now kicked off their activities at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) and Chittagong Independent University. The camp has been started on 10th November that will be continues till 12th November. The purpose of the camp is to motivate the girls in programming and evoke them to participate in the programing contests held both nationally and internationally.
The mentors and guests invited at the camps are impressed by the participant girls’ eagerness and potential in programming. M.M.A Hashem, the Professor of KUET happily shared that ‘our girls are working in several world famous organizations including Google, Apple and Facebook. They can go a long run providing that they get support and encouragement from this type of programming camp arrangement’.
The joint secretary of BdOSN Enayet Hossein Rajib, mentors of BdOSN Arunima Mondol and Tahmid Rafi, the university teacher Bishnu Sarkar and some other people from the related filed were present at that time.
The Grace Hopper training at Chittagong Independent University is being conducted by its teacher Emran Harun, the former teacher of BGC Trust University Priyanka Banik and others.
Grace Hopper Girls Programming Training Camp is preparing the students of high school, college and 1st and 2nd years university students for the next national programming competition.The BdOSN’s program coordinator Mr. All Rabbi said,“ In spite of the increase of the girls’ enrollment in the educational institutions, their participation in the computer programming contest is rare. To make computer programming popular, we have arranged this Grace Hopper Computer Programming Camp’.
It has been known that after the launching of a timely initiative called #missingdaughter in the last year, it has been organizing many workshop, camp, and career camp and internship programs to inspire the girls to come forward in the IT sectors.
There is a long term plan to execute the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science & Technology University (BSMRSTU), Rajshahi, Rangpur, Pabna, Comilla, Sylhet, CoxBazar, Rangamati, Tangail, Barisal, Gajipur and Noakhali.
