Career Opportunities for New Decade: Career Talk was Held at BAIUST

A career talk was held on Saturday, 11 January, 2020 at Bangladesh Army International University of Science and Technology (BAIUST). It was jointly organized by BAIUST & Bangladesh Open Source Network (BDOSN) on The National Computer Festival of BAIUST.

The Carrier Talk was organized with a view to thinking about young people's future careers & the opportunities and scope of the female students in the ICT and Non ICT sector where they can explore their potential. In this talk Vice Chancellor professor brigadier general K. M. Salzar Hossain ndc, psc (Retd.) was present as chief guest and Munir Hasan, founder of Bangladesh Open Source Network (BDOSN) was present as special guest. Besides Colonel Professor Md. Mosharraf Hossain (Retd.), Registrar Col. Suman Kumar Barua, PSC (Retd) was also present there.

After the Inauguration Ceremony Munir Hasan, Head of Youth Programme of Prothom Alo and the general secretary of BdOSN delivered his speech on the topic ‘Innovation and Career for New Decade’. He started his speech with an example of facebook & uber that was like “facebook is the largest content company but they don’t write a single word and Uber is the largest taxi company in the world but they don’t have any car”. Then he focused on the career path that is currently changing dramatically as global consciousness is presently linked to professionalism. The current trend of employment shows that half of the employment opportunity will disappear within the next few years due to digitalization. Creating new workplaces where there are only opportunities for technical work such as Big Data, Machine Learning, Block Chain, Cyber Security, Data mining or Artificial Intelligence only can bridge through this gap as the market will occupy around 1 crore jobs in the next 20 years.

He also warns the youth that the coming era will be robot dependent where youth may have to compete with the robot. For that they need to be prepared and their preparation should start from now. He advised to focus on some point like- Critical Thinking, Problem solving skill, Teamwork mentality and advanced communication skill.

In the year of 2041 our economy will be 11 times bigger than now only because of our working and thinking capability. This career talk was a comprehensive discussion of the skills that need to be developed as a way to prepare for the fourth industrial revolution.

At the end of presentation Munir Hasan requested our young fellows not to tell lies, asked them to prepare themselves from now and suggested to think for human welfare and as well as the country’s development.

Basically, this career talk was organized under three year ESDG4BD project of BdOSN. This project is for increasing the curiosity about ICT based job among our female students and connecting them to the technology based workplace.
