Grace Hopper Programming Camp & Career Talk, Organized in City University

A Grace Hopper Programming Camp was conducted by Bangladesh Open Source Network(BdOSN) and hosted by City University to increase the girls' programming skills and spark their interest in the field of information technology. The camp was held on the premises of City University in Savar, Dhaka on August 20, 2021. A total number of 51 students participated in this event.

The Programming Camp was graced by Mosaraf Hossain Tipu, Program Officer of Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) and Mubtasim Shahriar ,Mentor of ESDG4BD-2030.

The main purpose of the camp was to teach, pitch up and train the participants from basic to advanced levels of programming (such as Variable, Condition, Loop, Function, Algorithm, etc.). The mentors used real-world examples and use case scenarios to increase the camp's level of engagement. The sessions were designed in such a way that kept the participants engaged and attentive throughout the whole session. A mini mock programming contest was organized to help the students test their skills in the field of programming and to encourage the participants, the mentors announced 3 winners by observing the participants and also honored them with gift hampers.

Following the programming camp, Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) also organized a career pitching session titled ‘Career Talk’ to help the participants understand future prospects and career opportunities that the ICT sector is providing and the opportunities are yet to come. The event took place on the City University campus.

The session was graced by the General Manager, HR & Administration, r-pac International Corporation, Ms. Aklima Yesmin. She presented the whole session by referencing various real-life examples and scenarios and also provided diverse career advice to the participants (Such as Seek Internship opportunities, Consider taking part in a Work-Study program, Grow your Skills and Knowledge, Identify your Specialization, Get an Early Start, Keep your Skills Up-to-Date, etc.). The habits that all ICT professionals should adopt in order to have a successful career were also covered by Ms. Aklima Yesmin.

Moreover, She shared her experience of her entire professional life. She addressed the challenges encountered by women in the workplace. She also provided guidance on how to get beyond certain challenges. Throughout this session, participants' knowledge of career development ideas substantially enhanced.

The events were organized under the ESDG4Bd-2030 project of Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN).
