In a remarkable event on March 01, 2024, the National Round of the Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad (BdMO) occurred at St. Joseph Higher Secondary School in Dhaka. This event showcased young talent and was a testament to the power of education and opportunity.
Twenty optimistic students, embodying the spirit of curiosity and determination, represented the coastal region in this prestigious competition. Among them were thirteen females and seven males from six schools from Khulna, Bagerhat, and Satkhira. These students had already shown their mettle by qualifying in the school Olympiad in January 2024.
What made this journey even more special was the opportunity these students had to explore the wonders of Dhaka, a first-time experience for them. Their journey didn't stop there. These young minds got a glimpse of higher education and the rich cultural heritage of Bangladesh as they explored the University of Dhaka and other famous landmarks in the vibrant city. This trip was even more memorable because their guardians joined them, creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
The most heartening aspect of this endeavor was that it was made possible through the "STEM and ICT Skill for Girls in Coastal Areas (SISGCA)" project, under the benevolent guidance of the Bangladesh Freedom Foundation (BFF) and with sponsorship from the Malala Fund. This project collaborates with the Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN). It empowers young females with science and technology-based skill development opportunities. The project's reach extends to students in the 6th to 8th grades in six schools across Khulna, Bagerhat, and Satkhira Zilas.
The impact of this project is undeniable. Previously limited by geographical barriers, these young students were given the wings to soar. They showcased their potential and realized the importance of STEM subjects in our ever-evolving world.
In conclusion, the journey of these twenty students is a testament to the transformative power of education and opportunity. It's a reminder that investing in our youth, especially those in underserved areas, unlocks potential and possibility. The future of Bangladesh is undoubtedly brighter, with these young minds eager to contribute to the fields of science and technology. Their journey is their own and an inspiration for us all to continue supporting and nurturing young talents nationwide.
