Khulna University of Engineering and Technology's (KUET's) Mechatronics Engineering Department hosted the National Mechatronics Fest "Calibration 1.0." As part of the STEM & ICT Skills for Girls of Coastal Area (SISGCA) project, eight students from Comrade Ratan Sen Collegiate Girls School and Naihati Secondary Girls School, Rupsa, Khulna visited the event on February 2nd, 2024.
The SISGCA project, a two-year initiative funded by The Malala Fund and implemented by the Bangladesh Freedom Foundation in association with BdOSN, aims to reduce the digital divide among secondary school girls in three coastal areas of Bangladesh. To achieve this, it will provide girls with reliable access to smart devices and work to foster enthusiasm for STEM education and ICT careers among both girls and community members.
SISGCA Khulna regional coordinator Mahmud Hossain Sovon, Md. Jamal Uddin from Naihati School, and Hosna-ara Parvin from Ratan Sen School guided the girls during their visit to the National Mechatronics Fest. Esteemed guests enhanced the learning experience. Prof. Dr. Mihir Ranjan Halder (KUET Vice Chancellor), Prof. Dr Sobahan Mia (KUET Pro-vice-chancellor), Prof. Dr Md. Shahidul Islam (KUET Dean of Mechanical Engineering), Brig. Gen. Md. Humayan Kabir Bhuyian PSC (BAUST Khulna Vice Chancellor), and Prof. Dr. Md. Helal An Nahiyan (KUET Department of Mechatronics Head) provided valuable insights and inspiration for "Calibration 1.0."
The program impacted the girls' aspirations and outlook. VC BAUST Khulna, Brig. Gen. Md. Humayan Kabir Bhuyian, emphasized the need for technological solutions to preserve nature and promote agricultural growth. Prof. Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam highlighted the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in shaping a brighter future.
Prof. Dr. Md. Helal An Nahiyan accompanied the girls during the Robotics Fest, where his vision resonated with them, sparking curiosity and enthusiasm. The interactive fest allowed the girls to explore various stalls, question the hosts, and delve into the world of robotics and mechatronics.
The SISGCA project is breaking down barriers and empowering girls in coastal areas. The eight girls from Comrade Ratan Sen Collegiate Girls School and Naihati Secondary Girls School's newfound passion for science and technology demonstrates this impact, setting the stage for a future where gender does not limit educational opportunities.
