Empowering Students in Digital Safety: A Session of Cybersecurity

In a world increasingly reliant on digital technology, staying safe online is more critical than ever. Recognizing this, renowned tech expert Nasir Khan Saikat conducted an insightful and interactive session with students, focusing on the responsible use of the internet. Before diving into the core topics, Saikat first engaged with the students, ensuring they felt comfortable and involved in the discussion. This initial interaction set the stage for an open dialogue where students could express their thoughts and experiences related to internet usage. The session was conducted in 6 schools at Khulna, Satkhira and Bagerhat respectively.

Saikat meticulously explained the importance of utilizing the internet responsibly. He highlighted how the internet serves as a vast resource for learning and communication but also warned against its potential dangers when misused. To create awareness about online dangers, he detailed several common cyber threats, including phishing scams—where fraudulent messages trick users into revealing sensitive information, malware and viruses that compromise personal data, social media dangers like fake profiles and oversharing personal details, and online frauds where scammers exploit users for financial and personal gain.

To help students navigate the digital world securely, Saikat shared crucial safety measures such as creating strong, unique passwords and keeping them confidential, identifying and avoiding suspicious links or downloads, setting up privacy controls on social media accounts, and verifying the authenticity of information before sharing it. Beyond just staying safe, Saikat emphasized the importance of being responsible internet users. He encouraged students to avoid engaging in or supporting cyberbullying, respect others’ privacy and personal boundaries online, and report inappropriate content or behavior to the relevant authorities.

In addition to online safety, Saikat introduced students to AI-powered tools like ChatGPT. He demonstrated how such platforms can be used effectively for research, learning, and productivity while stressing the need for ethical and responsible usage. Saikat concluded the session by explaining how making the right choices online can lead to positive opportunities, including academic growth, career advancements, and networking possibilities.

The session was met with enthusiasm, and students actively participated in discussions and Q&A sessions. To mark their commitment to responsible internet use, all students signed a pledge, reinforcing their dedication to safe and ethical digital behavior. This session was a significant step in fostering a generation of informed and responsible internet users. By equipping students with knowledge and best practices, Nasir Khan Saikat has empowered them to navigate the digital world with confidence and caution.
