Under the project "STEM & ICT Skills for Girls of Coastal Areas [SISGCA]", Bangladesh Open Source Network (BDOSN) has built a portable STEM lab aiming to support our underprivileged girl students in developing information technology-based skills.
Students from two schools in Tala Upazila of Satkhira District- Shahid Ali Ahamad Govt. Girls School and Shahid Kamel Model High School will get the opportunity to use this lab. In association with Malala Fund, BdOSN has handed over the lab equipment to the school authority through a day-long ceremony. Satkhira-1 Constituency Member of Parliament MP Mustafa Lutfullah graced the chair of the chief guest and handed over the lab materials to the teachers and students.
Under the overall supervision of Bangladesh Freedom Foundation (BFF) and sponsored by the international donor organization Malala Fund, BDOSN is conducting various activities including science and technology-based skill development for the girl students of 6th to 8th class of 6 schools in Khulna, Bagerhat, and Satkhira upazilas. As a continuation of this program hands-on technology hands-on science, robotics, programming, and maths lab materials are provided to these two schools in Tala.
On September 07, 2023, apart from the head teachers of the two schools, Upazila Secondary Education Officer Sheikh Firoz Ahmed, Union Chairman Sardar Zakir Hossain, and Upazila Vice Chairman Morsheda Parveen Papdi were also present at the event. BdOSN General Secretary Munir Hasan in his welcome address urged the students of coastal areas to become problem solvers through technological skills. Drawing the attention of the students to acquire science and technology-based skills as a representative of Smart Bangladesh, the Hon'ble MP said that our girls should become technically skilled from now on to be a part of the changes that are going on in global technology. Today's lab equipment opens a door of possibilities for students.
This STEM Lab will help the students in hands-on technology practice for the sustainable implementation of the project. In addition, the head teachers of the school also expressed their desire that regular STEM activities be conducted in both schools through a STEM lab with the interest of the students and the teachers of the school.
