Weeklong Online International Girls in ICT Day Celebration 2020 Kick Off in Bangladesh

International Girls in ICT Day is marked annually on 23 April to celebrate the growing field of ICT opportunities for girls and women. Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) organize a weeklong celebration to promote technology career opportunities for Bangladeshi girls and women in the world’s fastest growing sector from 20 April to 27 April 2020. 

This year, the whole world faces an unprecedented challenge due to the COVID-19 outbreak. For this reason, BdOSN is planning to celebrate this day virtually with the motto “Virtually Together”. This celebration is designed with some discussion sessions related to scope & opportunities for girls in ICT and higher studies in ICT and related subjects abroad, a three-day workshop on programming language, career summit with successful tech female personalities of Bangladesh, a programming contest for girls and so on for their professional and academic development, academic flourishing, scopes and potentials in freelancing job market, programming and coding opportunities for girls in ICT sectors. All of these events will align with the Global ICT Day Celebration 2020 in participation with students, professionals, influencers, leading icons and others.

Today at 7.30, this celebration will start with a live session on “Post Corona Scope and Opportunities for Girls in ICT sector”. This live session will be attended by three of our girls who are willing to work in ICT and coordinated by Munir Hasan, a leading personality in the ICT sector and the General Secretary of BdOSN. This session will be an interactive session where girls will share their thinking about ICT activities in post corona condition to move our technology as well as economy ahead. This celebration will also include a three-day long workshop titled “Golpe Adday Programming” with Web Developer, Python Trainer and CEO of Programming Hero Jhankar Mahbub and Software Engineer of City Bank USA Karina Islam. Some discussion sessions and a career summit also be designed to be held where most of the tech leading ladies will grace these sessions via online from both native and abroad like- PhD Student from Australia National University Jessica Sharmin Rahman, Postdoctoral Research Associate, University of Manchester Dr. Mitra Kabir, Software Engr of Microsoft Dr. Jesin Jakaria, Software Engineer form TripAdvisor Pushpita Nomani, Professor of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering from University of Dhaka Dr. Lafifa Jamal, Associate Professor from North South University Nova Ahmed and many more. A programming contest will also be designed for girls in this very special eve of Girls in ICT Celebration 2020. 

This is an initiative to create a global environment that empowers and encourages Bangladeshi girls and young women to consider studies and careers in the growing field of information and communication technologies. BWIT and Internet Society Bangladesh Chapter are the co-organizers of the event. The Hello Academy will be a learning partner of this celebration.
