World Robot Olympiad

World Robot Olympiad, organizes robotics competitions in various categories with the aim of enhancing the creativity and problem solving skills of children and teenagers. This competition has been organized every year since 2004. Each season, the competition is organized based on a new theme and the participants compete in different categories based on age. Regular, Open, WR Football and Advanced are the four categories of competition. The age categories for participating in this Olympiad are 8-12, 12-15 and 15-19 years respectively. Age starts from 14 years to till 19years students can participate in the Future Engineers category.

Following the outstanding success of Bangladesh's little robot experts in the "International Robot Olympiad" in 2018 and 2019 and to take Bangladesh one step further in various robot-centric competitions, Bangladesh Open Source Network applied for membership of the "World Robot Olympiad" at the end of 2019. On 6th January 2020, the WRO recognized Bangladesh as the host country. Bangladesh is involved in this international event as the 25th member of the WRO in Asia and the 84th member in the world.

Bangladesh was scheduled to participate in the international final for the first time in Montreal, Canada on November 12-15, 2020, but it was canceled due to the global pandemic situation of covid-19. Instead, Canada hosts an informal online competition called "WRO 2020-X". In the flag parade of the opening ceremony of "WRO 2020-X", two of our little Robot experts Mir Umaiya Haque Padma and Eva Newaz participated On behalf of Bangladesh.

The 2021 World Robot Olympiad will focus on the theme "PowerBots - The Future of Energy". Due to the global pandemic situation of Covid-19, the competition of this year will be online officially. This year's online competition will be held in the same four categories of Regular, Open, WR Football, and Future Engineers. In 2021, Bangladesh will participate in this competition for the first time in the open category. One of the winning teams of the national round of "World Robot Olympiad Bangladesh" will get the chance to participate in the international competition this year.
