On 8th August 2023, Programming and Science sessions were conducted at Naihati Secondary Girls' School, Rupsa, Khulna, under the STEM & ICT Skills for the Girls of Coastal Area (SISGCA) project funded by Malala Fund in association with BdOSN. 40 female students from classes 6 to 8 participated actively in these sessions.
The main objective of these sessions was to enable the students to keep pace with science and information technology. Students can increase the spread of scientific knowledge. The trend of education among students is decreasing due to various reasons. Girls lag far behind boys in science and information technology education in coastal areas. Due to various social reasons, village girls are being hindered from getting higher education. Skill will be gained by appearing in various practical tests of science subjects. Students can participate in various science competitions. Students will bring honor to the country by participating in various competitions in the country and abroad.
The session started with a welcome speech by Rehena Khatun, Headmaster of Comrade Ratan Sen Collegiate Girls' School.
The session was moderated by Rezaul Islam, Project Executive, SISGCA, (BdOSN) and Md Tayeb ul Islam, Academic Team Member (MAS Lab). They give students a proper idea about Science Olympiad preparation. The session discussed with the mentor How students should prepare for the Science Olympiad, what books are important to read, and how to do well in national-level competitions. Examination of students in the 9th Bangladesh Junior Science Olympiad, 2023 is taken. Practical knowledge is imparted about scientific topics. Students are given a review class of previous science sessions. Students try to solve what they have learned in the previous class. Students are asked quiz questions based on the session. Prizes are awarded to those who answer the quiz correctly.
The session was moderated by Niaj Masud Rahat, Scratch Bangladesh (Mentor). He first teaches students the use of digital devices. Then student’s Basic gives a proper idea about programming. Students are introduced to the steps in scratch programming with the help of algorithms. Students are shown the works of texts speech, number line, broadcast in scratching. Students did scratch programming with tabs in groups. With the help of costumes, they were shown moving, changing colors, and moving the sprites up and down. Students have been able to make cartoons with the help of different characters. Successfully completed each step with joy. Students are asked quiz questions based on the session. Prizes are awarded to those who answer the quiz correctly.
Finally, the session was concluded with the permission of the headmaster of the school.
