Programming Camp Under ESDG4BD Project Successfully Concluded in Cox's Bazar

When the coder of today talking about their job and about how they have done their duties in their idiosyncratic programming language- elderly peoples get a blank face in response. In this fastest growing world, programing and coding is now a specialized core skill for all smarter citizen. Few days before, programing was dominated only by men and less interest was shown in our women’s world. But any revolution couldn’t be achieved without our female citizen. Yes, that’s why we have popping up some programming camps for girls to raise eagerness about programming in all over our country. Under a project- “Enabling Sustainable Development Goals of Bangladesh for 2030-BdOSN”, Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) has organized a programming camp in Cox’s Bazar.

Three-day long programming camp titled “Grace Hopper Girls Programming Camp” started in the morning of 11th may and ended in 13th May, 2019.  The aim of this camp was to build up confidence in ICT among those female students. This event was designed to encourage and inspire graduates to chase their dreams of becoming Information and Communications Technology (ICT) professionals and to encourage careers in ICT fields.

Mahenur Ahmed Akifa, a student of Chittagong University, came to know about this camp in her vacation for Eid-Ul-Fitar. She said, since her college day she was curious in ICT. This camp help to clear her concept on coding and provide a proper direction to pursue ICT as career. She expressed that she will participate in programming contest arranged in future with the learning from this camp. Another Student from same university named Amena Siddique was so excited about this camp as she gets more thirst of coding knowledge. Foyjutunnesa Bulu from Cox’s Bazar International University said that, she will work on this experience which she gained from this camp.

Moreover, 18 female students from three different institutions- Cox’s Bazar International University, Cox's Bazar Polytechnic Institute and Chittagong University have participated on this camp. Through this camp students were introduced with earliest form of programming, language of programming that a computer system follows and also with the horizon of programming contest. This camp was conducted by programming coordinator of BdOSN, Muntasir Morsherd and the mentor Rayhan Hossain Razu. In some sessions of this camp there were also M. M. Musarrof Hossain, Chairman, Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Abu Ahmed Babu and Nasrin Ferdous Vuiya, Lecturer of Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

To increasing women participation in the field of ICT Bangladesh Open Source Network will arrange more programming bootcamp, carrer talk etc. under the project titled “Enabling Sustainable Development Goal of Bangladesh for 2030-BdOSN  -said Mahbuba Sultana, the Chief Coordinator of Bangladesh Open Source Network.
