Observing 2016 as the year of computer programming

Bangladesh Open Source Network observing 2016 as the year for computer programming. The official confirms that they observing the year t promote, opularize the computer programming among the students. For last couple of years, BdOSN working in the filed of popularizing computer programming among the students of the country and tested few concept in this regards. Last year, BdOSN conducted a simple survey among the CS and CS Related students in the country and found that only 7% are interested in programming. For the girls the programming interest females are less than 1%. Presently around 40,000 students are pursuing degree in CS/Related subjects. To change the scenario BdOSN decided to work on popularizing Programming in the country for a year. 

The objectives of the programming years includes aware the students from Primary to Tertiary level about the beauty of computer programming and the future opportunities in Computer Programming,  Introduce the resources available in different media to the students of the remotest area of the country, Organizing Capacity Building activities for the target students which will include but not limited to workshops, training, seminar, boot camp, programming camp etc, Organize and facilitate on-line and on-site programming contest so that the students could check their skill and identify their gaps, and Help them to locate prospective employer for the future job.

The year long activities includes - 

  • Basic Programming Workshop  : A Crash course for the high school students.
  • Workshops in Different Area : Promotional, Opportunities and Resource introducing Workshop,
  • Online Mentoring : Year long online-mentoring support for interested students
  • Girls Boot Camps : One for High School girls and one for University Girls. The residential camp will help the girls to take the challenges of the computer programming. 
  • Girls Programming Contest Preparation Camps: Supporting girls to take the Programming Contest.
  • Programming Adda : Top programmer will share their views and experience with the university students.
  • Programming Ischool : These will help the final year students/fresh graduates to build their skill for the software industries.
  • National Girls Programming Contest (NGPC) : A girls only, nation wide programming contest. Last year 67 teams participated. 
  • National Primary Programming Contest (NPPC) : A fun based programming contest for the primary level students to aware them about the programming.
  • Online Contests: Online contest for all. 
  • Hour of Code : 100 location hour of code will be take place.
  •  Code Sprint : Two special code sprint will be held, etc.

 The programme has already launched on 7th February. An Adda with Jhankar Mahbub will kick-off the event in the field.
