Bangladesh is experiencing unequal participation of female workers in the IT sector. Along with lesser opportunities, lack of confidence and inspiration are also responsible for this situation. To mitigate this crisis by connecting a bridge between university female students and an IT firm, Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) has organized a Job Exposure Visit at UY Systems Ltd. This visit took place on 20th January 2022 on the premises of the organization. A total number of 28 enthusiastic female students participated in this experience-based learning event.
The participants were delighted to have Farhana A. Rahman, CEO of UY Systems Ltd and former Senior Vice President of BASIS. The visit started with her informative and interactive inaugural speech.
Throughout the activities, participants were introduced with several aspects of the IT industry. Ms. Farhana stated the issues and explained the challenges for both applicants and employers in terms of recruiting a female candidate. “Our girls are left behind because they don’t want to face the issues and overcome the challenges”, Ms. Farhana said. To ensure the growth of the female individuals, she recommended idolizing someone and following her. She also said, “You do not have to choose a very popular successful woman as your idol, rather you can choose your mom. Observe how she manages her households and her family elegantly”. Besides getting know about the available opportunities in UY Systems Ltd., The participants roamed around the headquarters and the training labs of the firm.
“This visit has not only taught us about the IT industry but also opened the way of many opportunities!”-mentioned one of the participants. This event was organized under the ESDG4Bd-2030 project of Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN).
