On July 4, the journey toward the IRO Bangladesh Open 2025 officially began with a dedicated volunteer training session held at the Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) office in Dhanmondi. With the upcoming 27th International Robot Olympiad (IRO) scheduled to take place this December in Gold Coast, Australia, preparations in Bangladesh are in full swing to select and train a competitive national team.
Since 2018, Bangladesh has proudly participated in this prestigious global event, and like every year, the Bangladesh Robot Olympiad (BdRO) and BdOSN are jointly organizing the national-level selection round. This year’s event will follow the newly adopted title, IRO Bangladesh Open, in alignment with updated guidelines from the International Robot Olympiad Committee (IROC).
The activation began with the training of 26 passionate volunteers on Arduino, sensor, motor, display, etc, interfacing; who will play a vital role in conducting workshops and outreach programs across schools nationwide throughout July and August. During the session, they were also introduced to hands-on experience with a programmable drone and a Mini Mars Rover mission, preparing them to lead activation programs on this year's exciting theme: Space Robot.
This year’s IRO theme—Space Robot—calls on students to imagine, design, and build robots capable of tackling the challenges of space exploration. In the national competition, students will be able to compete in multiple categories, including Creative Category, Creative Movie, and Physical Computing.
Participants will be grouped into three age divisions:
Junior Low (Grades 1–4), Junior High (Grades 5–6), and Senior (Grades 7–12).
As in previous years, a special Robotics Quiz will be arranged at the national level to further spark students' interest in robotics, though it will not be part of the international segments.
The registration for the IRO Bangladesh Open 2025 is set to begin in August, with the National Round to be held in September.
Bangladesh had a stellar performance in the 26th IRO held in Busan, South Korea, bringing home 10 medals, including 2 Gold, 4 Silver, and 4 Bronze—a testament to the nation’s growing prowess in the global robotics arena.
As the countdown to the Gold Coast begins, the IRO Bangladesh Open 2025 promises to be another exciting chapter in empowering young innovators and shaping the future of robotics in Bangladesh.
