Welcome to the website of Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN). BdOSN is a not-for-profit, voluntary organization to promote Open Source (OS) Philosophy in Bangladesh. It was initiated as an umbrella organization of different OS groups and organizations in Bangladesh and now evolves as one of the coordinating hubs for OS related activities in Bangladesh.

BdOSN launched IT Tips service by SMS
Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) launched its IT tips service through sms on 2nd March 2010 at BCS Digital Expo. Professor Dr M Zafar Iqbal formally launched the service be registering himself for the services. In his opening remarks he wishes that the new generation will come with new ideas and project to make the country proud. Omar Shehab, the project Manger from BdOSN explained that the registered user will get a IT tips every day through this service. He said that BdOSN support centre received a good number of similar query which now been served as sms service. In coming days, interactive service will be introduced.

BdOSN joined as partner in Second Citi Financial IT Case Competition
Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) joined the Second Citi Financial IT Case Competition (CFICC) supported by Citi Foundation and organized by D.Net (Development Research Network). The formal launching of the programme was held on 21st March at National Press Club. The ceremony was addressed by Mr. Mahmud Hasan, Programme Director, D.Net, Abrar A. Anwar, Managing Director and Head, Bangladesh Global Corporate and Commercial Bank, Citibank, N.A and Mr Subrata Deb Nath, EC member, BdOSN.
This competition being the first of its kind in Bangladesh was first launched in 2009, in which 54 institutions/universities took part and in the end University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) became the champion, winning US $ 5,000.

Workshop on Ubuntu held at IIUC, Dhaka Campus

International Islamic University Chittagong, Dhaka Campus (IIUCDC) Computer Club organized a workshop on Ubuntu on 29th January 2010. The workshop took place at the IIUC campus at Dhanmondi. About 30 students, including many non-CSE students participated at the session. Participants learned the Installation Ubuntu 9.10 as well as some advanced tips and tricks. Associate Professor & Head of the Department of CSE, Mohammed Shamsul Alam inaugurated the session. He welcomed the participants and the trainers by describing them as role models. He also mentioned about strengthening the open source community of the university.

PSTU OSN formed

The Open Source Network in Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) has been formed recently. A meeting was held in the department of computer science of PSTU on 8th January. Dr Humayun Kabir, Vice President of BdOSN was present in the meeting. The various aspect of Open Source technology has been discussed in the meeting. After the discussion a convening commiitee of PSTU_OSN has been formed with Prof Dr Professor Md. Ali Azgor Bhuiyam Dean, CSE Faculty, PSTU as Advisor. Mr Md. Kamrul Hasan, Lecturer, Computer and Communication Engineering Department, PSTU elected as the convener while Mr Foysol elected as the student coordinator of the network. It was decided that the PSTU OSN will organized programme shortly in the campus.

Workshop on outsourcing, Joomla and Ubuntu held: Khulna Open Source Network Launched

Khulna Open Sourced Network (KOSN) starts its journey with a daylong workshop on freelance outsourcing, Joomla and Ubuntu. The workshop was held on 1st January 2010 at the Hall Room of Khulna Circuit House. The workshop was organized jointly by District Administration Khulna and KOSN. In the morning, the workshop was inaugurated by Professor Dr M Zafar Iqbal. Among others DC Mr Ziaul Islam and BdOSN general Secretary Mr Munir Hasan also talked.
