The national round of the International Robot Olympiad (IRO) Bangladesh Open 2025 was held at the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) in Dhaka on September 12–13, showcasing the creativity and innovation of young robotics enthusiasts from across the country.
More than 300 students from schools and colleges participated in the two-day event, competing in various categories under this year’s theme, “Space Robot.” The competition also served as the national selection round for Team Bangladesh, which will represent the country at the 27th International Robot Olympiad scheduled to be held in Gold Coast, Australia this December.
A parent who traveled from Bandarban Sadar to attend the event expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity.
“Coming to Dhaka with my child for the National Round feels like a dream. In Bandarban Sadar, we don’t get many chances to groom our children. If opportunities like this reach the grassroots, so many of our kids will get the chance to learn, grow, and shine not just nationally, but internationally too,” the parent said.
In the Creative Movie category (senior group), Nusaiba Tazreen Tanisha of YWCA Higher Secondary Girls’ School won the gold medal. Nafia Bashar Suhani of Mohammadpur Preparatory School and College earned the senior gold in Physical Computing. In the Robotics Quiz category, Sarim Sharif of Sunnydale School won gold in the junior group, while Borno Modak of Dakshina Charan Pilot High School secured gold in the senior group.
In total, 20 students received medals, and several others were recognized with honorable mentions for their work related to the year’s theme.
The closing ceremony was attended by Professor Dr Qumrul Ahsan, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Asia Pacific, as the chief guest. Mr ASM Lokman, Additional Director General of the Department of ICT under the ICT Division, attended as special guest. Other distinguished guests included Mr M Manjur Mahmud, President of Datasoft Systems; Mr Shafkat Asif, Co-founder of Vivasoft; and Professor Dr Lafifa Jamal, a member of the Central Committee of the International Robot Olympiad.
A special selection camp will be held soon to finalize members of Team Bangladesh for the international stage.
The event was organized by the Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN), the country organizer of the International Robot Olympiad in Bangladesh.
